RESUMEN
La estabilidad en el número de nuevas infecciones por VIH durante los últimos años índica que las medidas preventivas actuales no están funcionando adecuadamente. Este hecho ha llevado a que se desarrollen nuevas estrategias para prevenir estas infecciones. Dentro de ellas la administración de fármacos antirretrovirales antes de que se produzca el contacto con el virus ha dado lugar a la llamada profilaxis pre-exposición. Varios trabajos han documentado la eficacia y seguridad de esta administración cuando el cumplimiento terapéutico es adecuado. Recientemente dos estudios europeos han venido a confirmar estos hechos y han abierto la puerta a su autorización por la EMA.
En este trabajo realizaremos una revisión de los principales estudios publicados y las ventajas e inconvenientes de su implementación.

Prevention preexposicion (PrEP): a new route to control the transmission
ABSTRACT
The stability in the number of new HIV infections in recent years indicates that current preventive measures are not working properly. This has led to the development of new strategies to prevent these infections. Among them, the antiretroviral drug administration before contact with the virus has led to the called pre-exposure prophylaxis. Several studies have documented the efficacy and safety of this administration when adherence is suitable. Two recent European studies have confirmed these facts and have opened the door to its approval by the EMA.
In this paper we make a review of the major studies published, and the advantages and disadvantages of its implementation.
