Summary:
Following the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in 1996, we have witnessed a significant decline in the morbidity and mortality of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, so that the number of people with HIV reaching older ages is increasing, and in the case of women, the number of women with HIV who reach menopause has increased significantly. The physiological and psychological changes that occur in this stage of the life of the woman impact in the short and long term in the quality of life and morbimortality of the woman. Knowing these changes and the interaction between HIV and menopause is fundamental for the proper care of women with HIV.
